Description

OREXIN-B 10MG also known as pocretin-2, is a neuropeptide that, along with orexin A (hypocretin-1), plays a critical role in regulating sleep-wake cycles and maintaining wakefulness. These neuropeptides are produced in the lateral hypothalamus and act on two orexin receptors, OX1 and OX2. Loss of orexin neurons or dysfunction in the orexin system is associated with the sleep disorder narcolepsy.

Key functions of Orexin B:

  • Wakefulness regulation: Orexin B, along with orexin A, is crucial for maintaining wakefulness.
  • Reward and motivation: The orexin system is involved in reward processing and motivation.
  • Energy homeostasis: Orexins also play a role in regulating appetite and energy metabolism.
  • Narcolepsy: Deficiency or dysfunction in the orexin system can lead to narcolepsy, characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness and other sleep-related symptoms.
Orexin B and its receptor:

  • Orexin receptors: Orexin peptides bind to the orexin receptors, OX1 and OX2, which are G-protein-coupled receptors.
  • Orexin-B specificity: Orexin B binds primarily to the OX2 receptor and has lower affinity for OX1 compared to orexin A.
  • Orexin-A specificity: Orexin A binds to both OX1 and OX2 with similar affinity.
