What is Cardarine?

Cardarine was originally discovered in 1992, while research was being conducted by Ligand Pharmaceuticals and Giaxo Smith Kline. Initially, GSK wanted this drug to be for the prevention of prostate and breast tumors. Cardarine is a peroxisome proliferator-activator-receptor delta agonist (PPARo). Trials of the drug began in 2000. In 2007, two large studies had been completed in regard to the drug and its treatment of diabetes, obesity, heart disease and dyslipimedia. This drug is also known as GW-501, 516, GW1516, GSK-516, GW501516 and Endurobol.

Eventually the testing was stopped, due to cancer being present in test subjects. Later, a different laboratory obtained a sample of the drug and changed the testing protocol. This laboratory began experimenting with larger doses of Cardarine and found different results. This time, the test subjects’ physical performance increased by large amounts. The test then showed many results that they had not expected such as:

• Higher levels of endurance
• Fat was lost quicker and obesity was prevented
• Type-2 diabetes in the test subjects was lowered in severity
• HDL cholesterol levels began to lower
• Wounds were healed quicker

In 2008, many athletes began using Cardarine as a performance-enhancing drug. A special drug screen was created prior to the 2008 Beijing Olympics that allowed the International Olympic Committee to test athletes for Cardarine use. This drug was being sold on bodybuilding websites and could be found on the black market.

In 2017, there were a total of 31 sanctions given to athletes for using this illegal substance. Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller is a heavyweight boxer who tested positive for the substance in 2019. He was about to fight Anthony Joshua for the WBO, WBA and IBF heavyweight titles. Miller was later unable to fight against Anthony due to multiple failed drug screens
